That is indeed a gap in the current version.

The reason we out-scoped it is that in general an external table comes with secret credentials. In theory it isn't mandatory and it can use the "current user" credentials, but that doesn't work with continuous export which is often a use case for external tables.

Are you looking at SQL or Storage external tables?
