Environment data

  • VS Code version: 1.55.2
  • Extension version (available under the Extensions sidebar): v2021.3.680753044
  • OS and version: Windows 10.0.18363
  • Python version (& distribution if applicable, e.g. Anaconda): 3.8.2
  • Type of virtual environment used (N/A | venv | virtualenv | conda | ...): N/A
  • Relevant/affected Python packages and their versions: N/A
  • Relevant/affected Python-related VS Code extensions and their versions: Jupyter v2021.5.745244803
  • Value of the python.languageServer setting: "Pylance"

Expected behaviour

Only install the extensions that I use (i.e. Python).

Actual behaviour

Forced to install additional Jupyter extension for no apparent reason.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Install Python extension
  2. Cry 😭

I've never had an occasion to create a notebook. I understand that, yes, Jupyter notebooks are quite popular. Nevertheless, the popularity of one particular feature in some segments of the programming world does not mean that other segments should have it forced upon them. I am fairly certain that the people that do want the Jupyter extension are more than capable of finding it in the marketplace themselves with the need to thrust into everyone's development environment.
