It appears that there isn't an easy way to help get vscode-python test adapter accept the output generated by the --collect-only output when using pytest-describe (https://github.com/pytest-dev/pytest-describe).

All the tests are outputted but it appears it ignores all of the ones which use the nested functionality.
