There's a Jedi-based version available at https://github.com/palantir/python-language-server. I've also opened an issue with Jedi to consider providing an official implementation.

Joining forces could mean less code to maintain on the TypeScript side.

Agreed, my initial plan is to use that language server, would help with remote development.
I will start contributing to that repo, makes sense to have a single code base (off load everything to Python, more efficient too).

Assuming this is still the goal... What sort of timeline could we expect? Will the Microsoft VSC-Python team use (and contribute to) or fork palantir/python-language-server or sourcegraph/python-langserver LSP projects? Or will they create its own Python LSP?
