When the tabs don't fit into the tab area, a new tab line is created and the tab is stretched to the whole width that is available (upper window in the picture).
So it is hard to recognize this as a tab without extra colouring like I did.
Although this is a bit inconsistent as single tabs are not stretched to the whole width (lower window).
So I would suggest handling a new tab line like a new window.
