Is there a good way to debug track_links not emitting an event?

On links that have track_links used on them, is there a good way to debug why it isn't emitting an event? Other than validating the node was on the page before calling it, and that the IDs match, there doesn't seem to be a way to inspect what track_links has done after calling it. There's no return value that I'm aware of from the docs. So, I'm wondering what's a good way to debug when you have a track_links call but aren't seeing an event being emitted to Mixpanel when clicking that link? One answer might be the new error_reporter config option, however in the absence of any errors here it's unclear what other inspection options are available.
