This is a very old requirement but the predecessor spec (RFC6874) was problematic. With IPv6 now being widespread the requirement is increasingly important (use cases are in the draft). This is now in IETF Last Call at https://mailarchive.ietf.org/arch/msg/ietf-announce/BqBF9qvZ8qZR4ZPlawPvQSe0WbU/
