Maya exporter install instructions out of date #4754

When I installed the maya export plugin according to the instructions, on Maya 2014, things didn't work.

I didn't need to install pymel, it was already installed/included in Maya. Following the instructions lead to several errors, so I backed it out and found that the exporter plugin worked anyway.
Installing the plugin to the specified folders didn't work either. Instead, I installed them to:

/Users/Shared/Autodesk/maya/2014

(on OS X). When I put the files in the location in the read me, the .mel script wasn't found.
