Pre-work - Tispy

Tipsy is a tip calculator application for iOS.

Submitted by: Murtaza

Time spent: 15 hours spent in total

User Stories

The following required functionality is complete:

  • User can enter a bill amount, choose a tip percentage, and see the tip and total values.
  • User can select between tip percentages by tapping different values on the segmented control and the tip value is updated accordingly

The following optional features are implemented:

  • UI animations
  • Remembering the bill amount across app restarts (if <10mins)
  • Using locale-specific currency and currency thousands separators.
  • Making sure the keyboard is always visible and the bill amount is always the first responder. This way the user doesn't have to tap anywhere to use this app. Just launch the app and start typing.

The following additional features are implemented:

  • 1 through 5 star rating system. Each star has a customizable tip value.
  • Dark mode toggle available in app
  • App Icon
  • Percentage value fields have number formatting and are lenient
  • Group size field which divides tip amongst number of people

Future features to be implemented:

  • Save entries to refer back to spendings on a previous occasion
  • Autoresizing so view is available on smaller-screen devices (Tested on iPhone 11)

Describe any challenges encountered while building the app.

  • Understanding how to convert between NSNumber, String, and Double while working with the NumberFormatter, Views, and UserDefaults
  • Ensuring the data is refreshed whenever the main is shown
  • Issues with forcing darkMode to properly change NavBar tint
