Set up alternate dockserver #2
Comments
Centos 7 was installed on a new laptop in the hope that I could get the new fleet management software (e.g. an eval copy). TWR has just let me know that the only access to an eval copy would be remote access. Since this won't work for me, I'll need to install Centos 6 (so that I can then install the older version of dockserver, which has issues on Centos 7). |
I now have Wendy's dockserver laptop. So, as long as I can get the laptop password, I should be able to use this machine as an alternate dockserver (for deployment/retrieval). |
Wendy's laptop (running Windows XP) does not have Linux installed. Wendy just used bare-bones terminal emulation to talk to the glider (via Freewave) on the serial port. I'll either look into installing Centos 6 on another old machine (e.g. from Chapel Hill) or getting a spare dockserver from Skidaway... |
I got an old laptop from Chapel Hill, but I have not installed Centos 6 on it yet, so this item is still open. |
I got 2 old laptops from UNC-CH, but install failed on both e.g. disk made screeching sound while installation was attempted. Gave up after about 15 minutes...These machines are no good. I'm hoping Catherine can provide a clone. If not, it is possible (not desirable) to take the 2nd monitor and just lay it flat... |
This is not urgent if Catherine is bringing a dockserver on a laptop for the first deployment. |
Current dockserver laptop has a bad screen. It can be used ok in the lab with a 2nd monitor, but this may not be practical for deployments. Therefore, we must install Centos and dockserver on a new laptop, to be used for deployments (with Freewave modem).
