Meola 2016 Brainstem connectome

The Meola 2016 brainstem connectome is the first fiber-atlas included with Lead-DBS. With it, all the statistical functions such as "volume of activated tissue within region" or "contact center how close to nearest atlas voxel" that Lead-DBS automatically calculates have been extended from volumetric data to fiber tracts in this update. It is now fairly easy to import your own fiber bundles from .trk or .mat format (contact us if you need a how-to).

Here are the highlights:

• Native view: You can now visualize results in native patient space. Atlases are automatically warped from MNI to native space and can be visualized here, as well
• Electrode reconstructions are now performed in a hybrid fashion between MNI and native space. This allows for more accuracy when placing your leads.
• You can now enter stimulation parameters more like you would in clinical routine. Model up to 4 different sources in monopolar stimulations. A novel VAT-model will be introduced soon, that takes full advantage of this feature and will support bipolar/interleaved stimulations and constant voltage/current modeling.
• The Kuncel 2008 VAT-model has been implemented.

Other features:
• Improved stability in normalizations with ANTs using a hybrid SPM/ANTs co-registration approach
• The reconstruction viewer has become much faster – which as some of you may know makes a real difference in practice
• Support of the new Convis editor introduced in v.1.4.7 in Lead Group and improvements of visualization features of Convis

Introducing a whole new connectivity viewer!

Other new features:

  • support of Advanced Normalization Tools (ANTs) normalization and CT/MRI fusion
  • better support for BRAINSFit based CT/MRI fusion
  • the global Gibbs' fibertracking approach is now integrated natively into Lead-DBS (Reisert 2009)
  • incremental update functionality – lead DBS now only downloads new files upon updates from within Matlab (thanks to Ningfei Li)
