Please provide nextcloud.log as the template requests.

The only information given is:

An unhandled exception has been thrown:
OCP\HintException: [0]: Memcache OC\Memcache\APCu not available for local cache (Is the matching PHP module installed and enabled?)

Which makes me think the issue is not with this application.

Again, please post the details of the error displayed and the contents of your nextcloud.log file when doing the action. Otherwise I can't be of much help.

You mentionned

big red error on the register page

What's the error text in question?

About the logfile not containing anything, you may try to lower the loglevel (to DEBUG) to see if anything else comes up: https://docs.nextcloud.com/server/latest/admin_manual/configuration_server/logging_configuration.html
