The current example theme is too simple. You should include examples of all of the powerful customization options that NextCloud has to offer. This will make custom theming much easier and more supported through contextual examples and will provide easier-to-follow references for Documentation.

You are talking about the old theming, which is only needed for advanced theming stuff. In general, we prefer using the awesome new theming-app which is much more easy to use - and also stays after upgrades without the fear, that anything is broken.

Users who want to theme their Nextcloud in a more advanced way normally know what they are doing without an complex example theme. If not, they really should not do this...

The documentation for advanced (old) theming can be found over here: https://docs.nextcloud.com/server/12/developer_manual/core/theming.html
