The idea of polls arose from a the thread #32 (comment) in which @jagedn mentioned a good reason why we might need slightly different design decisions as compared to the mainstream Nextflow codebase.
As a result, we decided that perhaps a good time to use the poll feature for this :)
Should env vars hold higher priority as compared to the fields in the nextflow.config file?
