Chrome will ask me over and over to go to tt-rss and log in. I don't have this problem in Firefox. Maybe a different treatment of $_SESSION? I did a bit of investigation and fall short of an explanation so far, as I thought I copied the way to recognize a session from tt-rss itself (back then in 2012).

Just a possibly related side note: TTRSS used to terminate a session when the IP changed. When I moved from home to library, I used to have to relogin. This is no longer the case.
However: despite still being logged on in TTRSS, GRITTTT-driveby thinks I am not, thus asking me to log on first. When I manually log off in ttrss and log on again, gritttt is satisfied. Maybe something changed in ttrss session handling?
Happens in Firefox, could test in opera and chromium if you think it'd help.
Yeah, I guess something changed in tt-rss. But I put some time into it, and that didn't yield anything so far. Can you use driveby-sharing in Chrome at all? I can't.
btw, I am using tt-rss version 1.7.0 - what are you on?
