Slightly different from the title's context, but 111.NHS.UK uses "interstitials" as signposting between digital services.

We had success using interstitials literally between 111.NHS.UK and NHS.UK - users understood what was happening, and understood that while everything was "still NHS" they were moving from one "piece" of it to another.

This intervention might seem unnecessary but when you consider the navigation/IA between two websites is being changed quite fundamentally, then the signposting becomes helpful.

Also extremely old now but relevant. 111 online did a discovery in getting people out of 111 into GP consultation systems. We investigated a few ways of getting people "over the jump": https://youtu.be/iCZW79-fCps?si=cJwP7C6EbzwLAzjK&t=1431
