I reached out to a few people with no luck so far but got some good advice!

What benefits can I offer to the sponsor without compromising the event/community?
It's generally things like logo placement at event or on the website, inclusion of branded swag, speaker sponsorship, venue sponsorship, badge sponsorship, email blasts, sponsor stand (if your event can accommodate them), after party or lunch sponsorship. Some folks offer speaking opps but I'm not a fan of this at all. If you have to then it's best to limit this as much as possible (5 mins max).

What is the sponsor looking for?
Some are hiring, some are promoting a product or service and some just want to support the community. Finding out their needs will help you create value on both sides.

Don't be scared to say no
Sometimes the sponsor wants more than you're realistically able to offer so it's okay to walk away if it isn't the right fit. Time is sometimes more important.

Limit sponsorships
I've found that having a set limit of sponsor spots creates a healthy sense of competition and also helps structure sponsorship sales. You can't go wrong with the old Gold, Silver and Bronze model.
