My proposal: Our mission is to foster a welcoming and inclusive community for those who are questioning assumptions, experimenting, and rebuilding existing tools and projects. We strive to achieve this creating a safe place to discuss ideas, give and receive feedback, and encourage each other. Definitely could use work, may be good to expand into a vision or manifesto (perhaps akin to: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/about/manifesto/ ) |

I still subscribe to the Guy Kawasaki school of mission statements: they should be one sentence and describe what you do, not what you want to do. Here's a few ideas:
