Hi @notracking, just a thank you for the time and work you put into these lists. I know how time-consuming it is to compile and maintain such lists. Many people think that they are just existing sources that are put together to form a list, but that is not the case. Due to the dependence on other lists, domains end up on the list again and again that definitely have no business being there. Preventing this is very difficult and costs a lot of time and effort. Furthermore, there are a lot of other things that have to be done in the background. It is a great pity that this list is no longer maintained, but I understand and respect your decision. If you wish, I can clean up your lists on my build system using my Allowlist and Deadlist, which I use for my lists, and make this version available for your archive as the last version. It's just an offer, I understand if you want to leave the lists as they are. Thanks for everything, |
thank you very much, it was a pleasure to collaborate |
I've been maintaining this list for well over 10 years by now (~7 years publicly on Gihub) and today I had a very hard reminder that time is limited and that I can only deal with so many projects and challenges at one time.
Curating an aggregated list like this one does in fact cost a lot of time and effort in the background (though some will disagree). In the last couple of months I have not been able to spent as much time and respond as quickly as I used to, to issues like the nasty ones we had in the last couple of weeks. I fully understand how much of an impact that is having on everyone using this list and I apologize for that.
I do not wish to degrade the quality of this list any further and I have to be realistic on my priorities in life as well, therefor I will be stopping the updates somewhere in the next couple of days. The repository will be archived some time after that.
Regarding the source code of the scripts and databases (there are many): I'm quite hesitant to make them public for the simple reason that I do not wish to provide any support on them nor do I wish to try to explain on how to get all of it up and running. There is a lot of legacy code in there that is not well documented and relatively complex (and costly) systems to do millions of whois queries weekly to monitor and remove actual dead domains for example.
I would strongly recommend anyone who wants to be able to 'generate' a list like this, to start from scratch (I know I would ;) and on the plus side, you will learn a lot from doing so!)
Big thanks to everyone who supported the NoTracking blocklist in any shape or form, your help actually kept it alive for so long!
