Option to show animated video thumbnails

Hey. I don't know if this is at all possible, but it would be great if the video thumbnails were animated, maybe through a gif or playing the file itself.

gifs are not really possible, since the thumbnails use a custom format. What we could do is cycle between different thumbnails from the same file using a timer. I have concerns that this might be a little overwhelming, so maybe only for the currently selected file?

note that this will also generate considerably more thumbnail files
