The work on granularity of process and substances was not completed and incorporated into SUMO. More work is needed, although the foundation is explained in this article and references on it.
The core issues for processes and substances are the same, I think. There's a level at which substances and substance-like processes become object-like. "walking" can be subdivided and remain a walking until we get to the level of "stepping" or "lifting a leg". It appears that "marble" has the same properties until one subdivides below its grain size (1mm ?). A given instance of marble might be characterized as "black" until one gets to a small grain of white quartz. So, we need to have the axioms we stated in our article plus new relations that would specify the temporal or spatial threshold from substance-like to object-like.
