Automatic system tuning for openSUSE #192
Comments
Initial feedback is that it might not be a good fit for GSoC. Can I please get more feedback whether you see it as a fit or not? |
Hello @lkocman, I came across this project in Gsoc 2023 under openSUSE and it seems quite interesting to me. I believe that this project will provide me with an opportunity to learn new skills, work with a team of experienced developers, and contribute to a valuable open-source project. Additionally, I am excited about the opportunity to participate in the GSoC program, gain valuable industry experience, and build a strong network of contacts. |
@OfficialAkashKumar is there any information you need or questions you have regarding the project? |
@ddemaio who are the mentors ? |
Hi @lkocman - hope you're doing great! I'm interested in this project and I have decent experience with tuning on Android devices (userspace and kernel) and have been using openSUSE full-time for the past 6 months. I am personally trying out something to tune openSUSE specifically to suit my laptop. |
Project Title: Automatic tuning of systems per workloads to contribute to Zero Touch system story
Description: We're considering tuned for the automatic system tuning. The technology exists but what's missing is the extensive work on the tuned policy side and when to set update/the policy. The technology is not set in stone.
Deliverable: System applies one of the maintained performance policies to the host based on the intended type of worklows (or dynamically). Research of what profiles are we missing or are in a bad shape is part of the project. As well as enablement of the technology by default on openSUSE Distributions.
Mentor: Who is the mentor? Who is the Co-Mentor? Also please assign the issue to the mentor!
Skills: Interest in system tuning for specific usecases, knowledge of tuned, interest in power management
Skill Level: Medium
Get started: Tasks that mentors may want to suggest students so that they can start contributing to the code base (e.g. junior jobs, low hanging fruits, discussion on the mailing list)
