Abstract

Pilot Tutor usage at 2U Open Courses & Marketplace (aka edX). Assist 2U developers in getting started, collect feedback, and iterate on the Tutor experience.

Context & Background

See Tutor DevEnv Adoption for context.

Scope & Approach

In the desired end state, all 2U developers use Tutor for the daily development work, and feel empowered to create & maintain the Tutor plugins that they need in order to work with their various 2U-specific services & platform extensions.

2U's new DevEnv Working Group (https://github.com/edx/devenv-wg) will be spearheading this epic, with help from @kdmccormick .

Value & Impact

Tutor is currently the sole community-supported Open edX deployment method. It is also used by many already as a development environment. Migrating from Devstack to Tutor would align 2U better with the established community direction for Open edX operations and development.

Migrating fully to Tutor would unlock the deprecation of Devstack, which would free up 2U resources that are currently directed at maintaining that tool.

Milestones and/or Epics

This is an epic itself. You can see full list of epics in the parent initiative ("Tutor DevEnv Adoption") here: https://github.com/orgs/overhangio/projects/3

(Transferred this from platform-roadmap over to tcril-engineering since it's not really a deliverable Open edX epic)

This pilot is on ice until openedx/platform-roadmap#202 is complete. I will open a new issue when we're ready.

@kdmccormick kdmccormick closed this as not planned Won't fix, can't repro, duplicate, stale Jun 14, 2023
