After we have searched this exact location,
20221109T044139
if there was a button "create a node at this location",
then we would be able to enter a survey point at this exact location, even if it was underwater or covered by trees and thus invisible from imagery!

E.g., a boundary point on a river floor with coordinates in the current datum (WGS84) from treaties signed by the two countries.

I would also use this feature a lot. My workflow is as follows:

  • When a feature is missing, I create a "favourite" in Osmand using my current GPS location.
  • I use Osmand Cloud to sync those favourites to https://osmand.net/map
  • There, I use "copy coordinates" to get the GPS coordinates of that feature.
  • I can paste the coordinates into a search box, for example of the iD editor.

It would really help to just create a new point at those coordinates. That way the position is determined by my GPS (with manual correction) while I'm physically at the to-be-mapped feature. That should give the most reliable location of the feature.
