Describe the feature would like to see added to OpenZFS

Hello,

My main storage is running Truenas Scale Dragonfish-24.04.2 with zfs-2.2.4-1.

My backup server is running Ubuntu server 24.04.1 with zfs-2.2.2.

I have been backing up my ZFS pools using syncoid with --preserve-properties, which passes the Zvol properties with zfs send ... | zfs receive -o zvol.prop1 -o zvol.prop2...

This has recently been failling at backing up Zvols because volthreading was released in truenas/zfs nut not yet in openzfs/zfs.

volthreading was meged back to openzfz/zfz, but never made it to any release.

Any idea on when this new feature will be available?

Thanks!

How will this feature improve OpenZFS?

More compatibility with other systems, Truenas Scale in particular.

The volthreading got into TrueNAS since it was implemented by out team. Merge to release could be done, but we haven't got to it. But now that you mentioned the replication problem, we need to think what to do about it, since it looks like a compatibility problem that should not happen with stable branch.
