eBird data from Oregon rocky coast hotspots for species that depend on rocky habitats for breeding, wintering, migration including the following species: harlequin ducks, rock sandpipers, wandering tattler, scoter species, and brown pelican. Several of these species are identified as “strategy species” (species of greatest conservation need) in ODFW’s Nearshore Strategy[1]. eBird data can be freely accessed here:

Interesting note about eBird is that the 7 Oregon coastal counties are in the top 8 counties for all eBird reports in the state:

I've made a data request in the eBird system, and they say requests are usually approved within in a week, so I will circle back when we get access.

Left to do:

  • determine how to visualize (heatmapping?)
  • determine what to visualize (guilds? management relevance?)
