I brought this up in the #development channel on the Discord yesterday, and I was informed that there was definite interest, but no one had looked into it yet. So I decided I'd post it here as well.
Both in the normal YouTube app and in ReVanced, there's a slightly annoying behavior going on with the in-page automatic video previews. When a video sits on the page for long enough, the thumbnail will be replaced with a video preview. This is normal, this is to be expected.
However, sometimes a video preview will begin to play for a second or two just before you tap on it to watch it. When your tap registers, your video will be brought up for normal viewing, but playback will begin where the preview left off, rather than at the beginning of the video.
Now, in the case of a preview which you've been looking at for several seconds, this makes sense. When the preview has only played for a few seconds, though, I'd much prefer that the video rewind back to the actual beginning when I tap on it.
On Discord, several people seemed to share my sentiment regarding this behavior, although there were outliers who didn't want the current behavior changed. Therefore, if implemented, this should definitely be an optional setting. "If the preview has played for less than X seconds when the user taps on it, rewind to the beginning." The user should also be allowed to specify how many seconds they want X to be in the settings.
EDIT: It should be noted that those who oppose this idea and would want the ability to turn this off are provably the weirdos and outliers, because this wasn't an issue just a few YouTube versions ago. In other words, YouTube's behavior used to match what I'm suggesting. It has since deviated from this sensible behavior for unknown reasons. I am suggesting here that we give users the ability to put it back the way it was.
