Using IPv6 Causes NPM Install to Hang

So this is an interesting issue, I was working on my wife's mackbook air and when trying to install any npm package through the CLI the installation would just hang. Interestingly enough, earlier in the year, this was not the case. Last night, I just decided to play around with some network settings and found that when setting IPv6 to manual instead of automatic, the installs were instantaneous again. I was wondering if I could get some insight as to why this may be happening.
