CodeQL should be configured by text files checked into version control.

For comparison, other FOSS linters and SAST tools do this. gitignore does this. GitHub Actions does this.

Thanks so much for reaching out in our community. Although this project is in early development and is not supported by GitHub or CodeQL (per the project's documentation), have you checked out codeql-extractor-iac? It may provide what you're looking for.

I'm not sure how relevant that is for your question though. You seem to be asking whether CodeQL can be configured by text files checked into version control, not whether CodeQL can analyze IaC files.

Depending on your use case it is possible to configure CodeQL through text files. See
