Option or setting to open external links in new tabs

It would be great if there was an option or setting that would allow external links to be opened in a new tab by default.

I feel like most other sites or services do this automatically. When viewing pull requests or etc in my day-to-day on Github, I'm usually dealing with a ton of external links — project management, design mockups, bug reporting, CI/CD, slack, you name it. On Github I find my finger basically sitting on the command key at all times so when i click external links they open in a new tab.
