Microsoft and GitHub both forced me to use 2FA, for code I list as 'Shoplifters Wanted', and I still can't give it away.
I don't own a cell phone, so I found an app a few years ago called Auhty Desktop. Worked when I needed it.
Then Authy Desktop goes dark, and the codes stopped appearing. Microsoft's answer is 'You our cell phone app if you don't own a cell phone', yet they don't make a desktop Authenticator app.
Now every time I make certain changes, it asks me for a code from Authy, or use Password. If I delete my browser cache, I do have recovery codes, but it would be nice that since an app is no longer supported someone proactively removed those apps from accounts. My edit 2FA doesn't let you.
