I would like to issue a Personal Access Token, for use with gh cli, so that I can interact with a repo shared with me, as easily on the command-line as I can on the web. It is an unexplained oversight in Personal Access Tokens (https://github.com/settings/personal-access-tokens/new) issue flow.

I would probably try to use a classic token to interact with a repo I didn't own.

That's helpful in general -- in this particular case, I want to use it on a project-specific server, without giving everyone with access to that server access to every organization and project I own or contribute to. In fact, for me, that's a blocking requirement in the context I'd hoped to use PATs.

It seems like a useful corner of the space where personal access tokens might used. In principle, the number of accounts that can contribute to a project is strictly greater than (or equal to) the number of project owners. It feels like an oversight, and I want to state the issue minimally and simply.

Is community forums the best place to discuss this? Should I file an issue on gh cli instead? Is this topic clear enough?
