Certain repository settings not copied over when creating a new repo from a template repo #55200

Eh we could always listen to a repository creation webhook and then apply branch protection rules, but it disappoints me greatly that GitHub doesn't have this feature built in by default. |

I'm also after this functionality. |

For me this is now just access settings and things like wikis/discussions being turned off since I've swapped over repo-by-repo branch protections over to global rulesets |

Not dormant, because it's not fixed. |

Yes this caught me out as well - when can it be fixed? |

Update: now the settings I would like copied over from the template are just the following:
Since I've swapped over to global branch rulesets and org-wide repository access settings I'm sure there are other settings not currently being copied over that other people in this thread would like as well |

Is this feature in the works? Are there any alternative workflows my team could use?
Body
Up to now, I had assumed that branch protections and access settings would be copied over to a new repo when it is created from a template repo.
This includes the users/teams that have access to the new repository
and the branch protections preventing certain actions on our protected branches.
I am now realizing that this behavior I anticipated is not currently in GitHub. Does anyone know if this feature is currently in the works? Alternatively, does anyone have any suggestions for alternative workflows my team could use?
