We upload machine images to ghcr.io

What is the maximum file size?

Our images have a size of 1.8 GByte at the moment.

We use oras push to push a single tgz.

I have been pushing containers of 19+ GB, i have models of sizes between 200mb and 2.4 GB.
I noticed that in pushing to ghcr.io, layers above size of 10gb, doesn't go through and just starts retrying.. a push of layer of size 9gb goes tho..

I had contacted the GitHub support with this question. They have now documented the answer for us:

• The Container registry has a 10 GB size limit for each layer.
• The Container registry has a 10 minute timeout limit for uploads.

I can confirm that I can successfully upload our 25 GiB image, if I manually split the layers into smaller 7-8 GiB pieces using a multi-stage build.
