System Theme Styling - adjusting colours?

Is it possible to adjust internal themes with css? Currently I use "system theme", which matches OS theme and it works great but I would like to tweak a bit dark variant, which I use on the mobile (to make it pitch-black). I know I can use custom-css, but setting background would affect both light and dark variants, which I want to avoid.

There are somewhat similar issues (#633, #386) but they don't address it directly.
