OpenFGA uses the Discussions feature in Github as a way for providing support and facilitate open-ended conversations. Instead of putting everything into an issue, we think this separation is useful:
Github Issues are for targeting specific actionable work that needs to be performed, like:
bug reports,
features/enhancement requests, which can be integrated to the project's ongoing roadmap
Github Discussions are for more general and open-ended conversations, like:
asking questions about OpenFGA,
talking about topics like deployment or integration strategy,
clarifying best practices,
providing design, usability, or validation feedback on new releases, (Note: bugs should still be filed as issues!)
making announcements,
and getting localized support from the community
Some benefits to this system are:
Discussions can be upvoted, which will make it easier to identify common support questions or just more generally popular discussions. Please upvote topics you're interested in, or that you think deserve more attention!
Discussions can be started as questions looking for a specific answer, where replies to the discussion can be upvoted. These replies are sorted most-upvotes-first by default, and a 'correct' answer can also be chosen. This makes it easier for other people with the same questions to navigate to an answer.
Individual comments inside discussions can have replies, which should make it easier to carry on side-discussions without derailing the original thread.
Issues can be converted to discussions! The core team will suggest doing this with any Issue that sounds more like a localized support issue rather than a bug report.
