OrientDB Version: 3

Java Version: Don't know what you mean. Using C# net5.0

OS: Windows

Expected behavior

  • Appropriate C# support for Orient DB 3
  • Proper (ie.e. working and complete) documentation
  • Honest responses to people asking about NET support here and here

Actual behavior

  • Examples do not work
  • Documenation incomplete, lots of guesswork involved to even get a connection

Steps to reproduce

  • Try to follow your own docs with C#

Hi @Jens-G

The big problem is (and has always been) that OrientDB core team is made of Java developers, none of us has a strong background on .NET.
There was some effort from the Community to support the .NET driver, but now the maintainers are no longer active, so the driver is lagging behind and lacking support for latest features implemented in OrientDB. Some of these features (eg. the token authentication and the support of the binary protocol for the new SQL executor) are very critical, so using latest versions of OrientDB with the .NET driver is objectively complicated.

Unfortunately I cannot give you any information about future improvements, since there are no active investments on this aspect. Hopefully someone from the Community will take ownership of the .NET driver and actively support it

Thanks

Luigi
