Original report (archived issue) by Louise Poubel (Bitbucket: chapulina, GitHub: chapulina).

Hotkeys to turn snapping on and off seem to be inconsistent.

Inserting an entity:

  • Default: Snaps to multiples of 1m
  • Hold Shift: Free movement

Translating an entity:

  • Default: Free movement
  • Hold Ctrl: Snap to multiples of 1m

Maybe related: holding shift with click+drag is also used for rotating with trackpads that don't have a middle button (#151).

Reviving this so that I can make an accurate Hot Key Ref Chart. I'm inclined to, by default, have models move freely, and snap with the use of a hot key. This would mean that we change the Inserting behavior such that, if no hot key is pressed, the model does not snap.

Thoughts?

+1 for changing inserting behavior to match the translation behavior

It would be super awesome to have the hot key reference chart under the Help menu. I think you can use HTML with QT for this.

We should probably move the hotkey chart discussion to issue #458

  • changed state from "new" to "resolved"

The hotkey chart has been merged with the new commands and consistent commands have been merged as well.

Reopening because there is still an inconsistency between simulation and model editor.

Inserting entities should not snap by default.
