Select "Type" for Folder Containing Multiple Object Classes Marks Object "Dirty" (Needing Save)

If I open a folder that contains multiple object classes, I will be presented a type selector:

once I select the type:

the Object is marked dirty (notice the * on tab) along with this popup when I try to close tab:

I don't believe anything has "changed" needing a save. The selected object type does not get saved.
