Russ Cox has presented a proposal for a more generic filesystem abstraction for the Go language. It has some quality insights, some good solid design considerations in alignment with the ideals Go is looking for. This project naturally carries some interest in the topic, and insight from developers and watchers of this project might have some value feedback.

With the release of go1.16, the proposal is not only accepted, but now firmly established in support. A different issue is tracking discussions on how we could change the package in light of io/fs now being available: #407
