“我在拍《小武》之前，看了无数的中国电影。我有非常不满足的地方。从这些影像里面，我们看不到当下中国人的生活状态，也看不到当下中国社会的状态，几乎所有的人都回避这个问题。我想十年以后，一百年以后，当人们再看中国电影的时候，他们看不到这个时代真实的面貌。影像在九十年代的缺失是令人非常焦灼的。九十年代中国的经济、社会和文化都处于一个强烈的转型期，时代进入到一个前所未有的混乱、焦灼、浮躁的氛围里，每个人都在这个氛围里承受了很多东西。这种时代的变数，是一种兵荒马乱的感觉。我从普通的感情出发，希望能拍这样的东西。”（贾樟柯）
