I've attempted to setup the patch for my mid 2014 MacBook Pro (11,2) and 2021 M1 iPad Pro 12.9" (13,8), however I get the error: Unable to connect to iPad, connection to device timed out. I'm assuming this is because there isn't support for the 2021 iPads? Is there some place in the code where I can just add 13,8 to the list of iPads to select from? Thanks

your iPad isn't the problem, your Macbook isn't considered for this feature (13,x or 2016 onwards). Try it on a newest Macbook, I'm pretty sure your iPad will work without issues.
BTW, if your MacBook runs with Big Sur or Monterey, the folder where should work this patch doesn't exist anymore.

I'm not sure so far, but I think that the file (to be patched) was replaced by a couple of plist files that look for matches between macOS device and the apple blacklist (external link) to activate this feature.

  • com.apple.sidecar-hid-relay.plist
  • com.apple.sidecar-relay.plist

It's the theory I have so far.
