Can't right-click current directory in Nautilus List View (when scroll bars are present) #62

When in List View in Nautilus I am unable to select the directory I'm currently on.

Example:

  1. Select a directory with a lot of files.
  2. Change to list view and make sure a scrollbar appears
  3. Try to add a new directory to directory you are in using the right-click.

This is a long-standing and very unfortunate problem in nautilus. We will have to think about how to fix it.

Any current status on this? List view is very clumsy w/out rightClick, especially when compared to other OS' functionality. I can immediately think of three possible solutions to give access to the same menu that gets displayed in list view when you do NOT have scroll bars showing and right-click in the white space below the list), in decreasing order of (my) preference:

  1. Add a "menu" icon and selection to the list displayed in grey on the left, either above Recent or below Other Locations.

  2. change the menu that is displayed when you right-click on the column headings above the list view. Currently it shows only heading selections; it could possible be changed to the right-click menu plus an additional (top) line labelled Columns which gives access to a sub-menu containing the same column selector.

  3. display that menu when you click in the empty "gray space" below Other Locations

I'm hopeful that something can be done here in the near future.

Upstream issue for this: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/nautilus/-/issues/1929

Some upstream duplicates, which provide some info on the UX behind the current design:

https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/nautilus/-/issues/1691

Note that right-clicking on the breadcrumb entry for your current folder seems to display the same options as right-clicking on an empty space within the folder, and is available in list view or icon view.

Thanks for the breadcrumb hint, @jacobgkau ! Not intuitive, but it provides the desired functionality.
