Describe the crash:
I was unable to catch this on video unfortunately. I'd been playing for a good hour or so when about 2/3 of the way through a song (it did not happen when I played the song again) the sound cut out entirely, the circles jumped abruptly (as if skipping forward a few notes or something) and froze, and a small irregular triangular graphical artifact appeared that looked like the texture of a circle's border. The application was not completely frozen though, it could still be interacted with in the following ways:

  • Pressing ESC brought up the pause menu, but only once - upon returning to the game it would not open a second time, though the little X icon that says "hold for menu" or something like that would still light up every time I pressed ESC (clicking and holding that icon also would not open the menu)
  • The cursor still moved around the screen normally
  • I could open and close the options panel multiple times (unlike the pause menu)
  • The on-screen key display still lit up when I tapped my keys... but strangely the count of how many clicks would decrease with each keypress.

At this point I attempted to record what was happening with OBS studio but it was unable to pick up any video from the application (which tbh might have just been my OBS and not osu), and while I was messing with it to try and get it to record, I accidentally pressed my quick retry key and the game un-froze and began reloading the song, then hard-crashed to desktop before it could finish.

The logs attached are from stable, not lazer. Please try attaching them again.

A link to the beatmap this happened on would be useful. Does this replicate every time, or was this just a one-off?

Sorry, I updated the logs. It happened on Highscore on the highest difficulty, but as I said in the original post it did not happen when I played the song again.

Sounds like it may be GC related, if the game recovered. If you are able to reproduce this regularly, please hit Ctrl+F2 to bring up the performance stats screen and leave it open (off in a corner) while reproducing. You should then find some more detailed performance logs in your logs folder you can share with us.

If this is GC-related it might be because of the amout of RAM you have. On my PC ( only 8 Gigs ) some longer maps with high note count can go up to 16-20 Gigs paged memory and produce several half-second lags.

There have been no reported instances of 16-20gb usage. If you encounter this, please report it along with logs and further information.

I assume this is because of Visual Studio collecting info? I don't know what my memory usage is normally. I know that it all gets released at the end of a map.

If you are able to reproduce this regularly...

This has only happened one other time just a week or two ago (on a different song), so I can't reproduce it consistently. The only thing I can remember being the same is both times I had been on a big Osu binge and had been playing non-stop for a much longer time than my usual "hop in and play for half an hour or so." So in theory I would have to play for a couple of hours just to test this issue once.

A couple of things of note: I upgraded my system to 24gb of RAM about a month ago, I played a 13 minute 5* marathon song with no problems (got my first ever 3000 combo though! :D ), and I have MSI Afterburner tracking my RAM and Pagefile usage and neither have ever showed any significant increase from playing Osu.
