Whilst a lot of people still consider this legal overhead, experience developers (especially those maintaining libraries) agree on the value having a CLA.
Our main points are:

  • We want to be fair and transparent about the terms right from the get go. It is very little text, not too legalese text and it gives everyone a clear understanding what the terms are
  • Having a CLA is the only realistic way to ever be able to enforce the license. If one is not able to enforce a license one may just as well not use one anyway...

So, if you agree with our License, and you want it to be effective, the CLA is pretty much a given :)
