I don't have plans on upstreaming the changes on my branch myself. So unless someone else wants to do it you'll have to use my fork for the time being. |

i really hope the main release will have exFAT support from your branch soon. Because THIS is a major huge update, and so much simplier to use exFAT instead of that clunky file format that's forcing you to use weird softwares to transfer games, and having to copy art over with a USB drive, that's so clunky. Doing everything using exFAT, detected by Windows using a USB adapter or docking, drap-and-drop ISOs, using OPL Manager to manage ISOs, download covers, creating VMCs, and putting it back in your PS2 afterward, so much simplier! It just NEED to be in the main release, or at least in the Stable 1.2.0 (non-beta) release. |

Once I recover, I'm purging everything PS2 homebrew related that's been deprecated by Ryan's work that I've been storing on my drives for years. I'm done juggling half a dozen apps for this or that. I'll keep Winhiip around just in case, a memory card editor, and OPL manager, and that's it. |

This is exactly why i think the exFAT feature is amazing, no need to juggle around with proprietary dodgy apps for this and that, it's detected natively by your computer, just: i'll keep using Grimdoomer's OPL until the regular OPL have that feature. |

I was about to ask the same question, i'm preparing to modding my 700XX console with the IDE resurector with an microSD reader, and having the possibility of just puttinh the microSD of my MX4SIO is incredible. |

Cos i ain't going back to the proprietary crap. I have no idea why they're still not using exFAT, it would make everything a lot simplier, no more splitting ISOs of more than 4gb, no more copy-pasting a whole lot of images from your USB drive to your HDD in your console. Also i only had problems with the proprietary format, i often got corrupted files because of unknown reasons. Quickly said, almost everything would be done thru OPL Manager (by almost, i mean you still have to copy ISOs in the proper folder on the HDD). |

like you said, it IS imperative. For now i use Grimdoomer's build of OPL with exFAT support. I really think people using HDDs or SSDs on their PS2 need that support. Because using a special proprietary software to read and write data thru some USB adapter because PS2 use EXT3 format for storage and CANNOT be recognized by Windows, is extremely clunky and a massive drag! exFAT support make all of this seamless, you just need either a SATA adapter or docking station for the storage drive, and you can do everything seamlessly, "OPL Manager" detects everything, there's no "corrupted files" that could happen for some reasons on EXT3, everything work great! |

If the internal HDD is supported in exfat wouldn't we also need a modded or updated version of freemcboot/freehdboot that supports exfat too? |

only OPL need to be updated with exFAT support. But yes, the whole FreeMcBoot package would have to be updated with the OPL that support exFAT. In the meantime you can do this manually yourself, it's a bit of a hassle, so if you don't know how this work, then i would suggest to look up some tutorials on how to customize your FreeMcBoot menu. so AFAIK, the latest v1.2.0 Beta doesn't support exFAT yet. I'll keep using GrimDoomer's version until they decide to add exFAT support to the regular OPL. It shouldn't be too hard, i mean GrimDoomer did it and i think it wasn't too hard for him to do so. I'm just guessing it's just NOT a priority for those developing for OPL to add this support...even though it SHOULD be a priority. |

I use the main opl build at the moment through SMB and a portable router with HDD formatted to NTFS. This works great on my ps2 slims. My ps2 fat has 2tb internal PSFS. I am very interested in updating to EXFAT for all my systems. What sort of compatibility does the main branch have with external EXFAT drives and games in ZSO format? Also what compatibility does internal EXFAT have on grimdoomer's mod with games in ZSO format since its 84 commits behind the main branch. All my games are in ZSO and I'd rather not convert them all back to ISO. I know how to configure freemcboot to auto boot an ELF on the memory card so it's not the end of the world to scrap freehdboot until its updated for EXFAT. |

It's been over a year, and no progress. Nothing. Not one peep. The only other place you can find this much commitment to long periods silence in between performative breadcrumbing press releases (outside of government) is Ubisoft, Square-Enix, and NRS/Warner, but they also have shareholders to answer to. Homebrew developers answer to ... checks notes ... ahh, nobody. Just like the government! They don't have to cop to anything, either. Especially not to hostility, aversion, sabotage, jealousy, nothing. Just stay silent. Let the gears turn in our heads ad infinitum. It's not like any of us have any power or stroke over here. Not even "sternly worded letters" like this one ... 😝 |

at least there's GrimDoomer's OPL, though it's been over a year (last release being May 2023 as i write this) without any update. Still the only solution for exFAT HDD/SSD compatibility so far. |

Okay, so let me get this straight: the solution to getting Grimdoomer's work merged ... is to use an instagram promotion app to help fish for more performative superficial shit like "likes" and "followers"?!? Nope, I left high school permanently three decades ago, and we already have the solution, as evidenced by the fact that this thread -- after 1 year -- is STILL at the very TOP of this repo with over 30 replies ...
If the maintainer of the project is going to actively join in on the misdirection and obfuscation, then it pretty much tells us everything we need know outside of an official statement on the matter: "We don't wanna merge this fucker." Okay then. Just come out and say so. The silence over the last year spoke loudly enough anyway, and the last I'm thing I'm doing on my YouTube channel ever again is to breadcrumb viewers and subscribers with false hope and vaporware. My official statement is as follows: Togonzo Media won't mention OPL ever again until Grimdoomer's. work. is. merged. |

Your comments are super confusing, you do realise there have been no active OPL developers for over a year right? When I say that I mean adding new features, game compat and bug fixes.. We have akuhak and uyjulian who make sure the code base stays up to date with ps2sdk so that it can be compiled so that anyone that wishes to contribute can do so without having to struggle compiling.. which is totally their choice they don’t even have to do it but they choose to which should be appreciated considering they have other things to do. I’m not sure what side of the fence you fall on or what Togonzo Media is? but considering you used to contribute to OPL I would think you’d be able to follow the commits and pull requests and realise there are no active developers, just maintainers. This would be why it didn’t get merged.. not because of some conspiracy where everyone is keeping quiet about it.. but the fact that no one was around to upstream it. Like you said, it’s open source homebrew.. anyone can contribute. Saying that I started looking at upstreaming it myself just because I thought it would be cool to have.. doesn’t mean I’ll get it or work or that it will get merged by those with write access so don’t expect anything… |

Wow ... this has been dead for over a year?!? I honestly didn't know ... Up until now, I didn't know there was no active developers ... Shit, I knew it was on life support, but the possibility of no active involvement never crossed my mind since the 1.0 release ... Damn ... My Outlook account has had an alias of "batrastard@outlook.com" since I registered it, so everything regarding OPL, PS2SDK, Linux Mint, and Cinnamon related gets buried there. Hundreds of thousands of messages. I seldom launch Outlook, and the only time I ever popped up over here is when I saw a LIVE notification on my desktop whenever I was at my desk. If my computer is off, I get a flood of them that come and go like popcorn once I boot to either Windows or OpenSUZE ... |

Latest releases as in upstream OPL? It hasn’t been merged yet it’s on one of my branches, still finishing it up that’s why I linked an artifact on my fork.. also clicking latest releases in my fork won’t work either you need to use the actual link that I provided |

ah ok yeah i tried the one from the link you provided. Yes it work. But i tried a few games, and with Dark Cloud 2, it seem to have problems with freezing at times. Also the covers loadings seem to be slower than on Grimdoomer's release. |

A lot has changed in OPL itself and the SDK since grimdoomers already compiled builds, you’re not going to find them to be 1:1 but the code that handles the hdds is essentially the same, the png loading is exactly the same and etc.. but there are generally always improvements to be made that can increase performance |

I'll try to give it a whirl tomorrow - my PS2, PS3, PS4, and Vizio TV are in the office but I can't plug them in without overloading the circuit my UPS in on ... and the UPS powers the office computer. |

as i could understand, GrimDoomer was able to make a fork with exFAT compatibility back in May 2023. But since then, the commits broke the exFAT function and would have to be redone to work, and it seem like nobody is willing to put some energy into this right now. So like i said, if you want, you can just use GrimDoomer's latest version of OPL 1.2.0beta, it's a bit old, but it's still much better than having to screw around with those stupid proprietary softwares you need to be able to copy things on the storage drive, and could even fail sometimes. I know the EXT3 partition checker app on PS2 often told me the partition went bad, and everytime i tried to fix it, it just messed things up, even though the HDD itself have not a single problem in SMART report. So, for me, the original Linux format is a no-go for me, i hate it. exFAT compatibility make things so much easier and simpler, detected by Windows and on GrimDoomer's, and you can just use OPL Manager directly in Windows for it so you can get all the artworks for your games, doing all the tweaks there too, and create the Virtual Memory Cards (VMCs) you want too and assign them to each game. Plus, with exFAT in OPL, if you want to swap storage drive, you can just copy everything (no file is hidden) over to the other drive (you need either a double-slots docking station, or other USB adapters), just make sure both drives are exFAT, and it's gonna work. If you knew all this already, i'm sorry, i just like that so much, lol! |

I tried the latest version of regular OPL v1.2.0Beta and it seem like there's the "HDD" option missing in the "Block Devices", which seem to be needed for the exFAT-formatted HDD to be detected.
