Can't read anaconda-mode server response

Using emacs -Q (GNU Emacs 24.3.1)
Anaconda-mode from elpa (Version: 0.1.1 or anaconda-mode-20150922.537)

Any anaconda-mode command causes anaconda-response window to pop-up and
"Can't read anaconda-mode server response" in Messages

Manually loading

removed ~/.emacs.d/anaconda-mode and forced a re-install to start fresh but same issue persists

Anaconda-mode was running fine before updating to 201509xx version.
