My issue -
too many apps that generate too much icon noise on the launcher.
They also generate notifications or icon counts for tasks that i want to use in a batch mode
i have lots of shortcuts to documents and other things that are related to onging work/projects.

My enhancement idea is to corrall the attention stealers, and have the ability to define checklist like tabs and topic/project specific reference shotcut tabs under a special "desktop" tab with specific funtionality.

Using (MoSCoW) style, It has the following properties:

  1. It would be an on/off feature
  2. it must be a tab that has a menu/option to manage user defined 'desktop' sub-tabs
  3. a desktop subtab has the following properties
  • it must allow application 'desktop' shortcuts
  • it must change the color or otherwise indicate if a shortcut has been used or not used
  • it must have a manual mechanism to clear the 'used state'
  • It could have a timed clear (e.g. day/week/month setting)
  • If an application is indicated as used, then it should take a long click to open it.
  • it when clearing, it could capture the used and unused links, to later indicate when and what in the desktop tab was last used (e.g. when the last link was used)
  1. It could have a view to show link/application usage

Two use cases would be:
When i have an activity i want to maintain about foo and and have to batch update 5 applications and reference support documentation. Rather than have each of application notify me for updates, i use the desktop tab feature:

  • i must create a desktop tab named 'foo'
  • i should set the checking frequency (none/daily/...)
  • I must add shortcuts to the applications and documentation to the tab

Later when i have time to perform the batch activity about foo:

  • i must select the desktop tab
  • I must use the linked application
  • i must go back to the desktop tab and select an unused link.
  • i will stop when the batch action is complete, as indicated by the used state
  • i could clear the used state for the next cycle, or the tab could clear it for me.

=======

When i have a project reading or support list (e.g. evernote, pdf, foogle drive) about foo and i want to make sure i have read them all

  • i must create a desktop tab named 'foo'
  • i should set the checking frequency none
  • I must add shortcuts to the documentation to the tab

Later when i have time to work on the project:

  • i must select the desktop tab
  • I must see what material has been used
  • i should be able to see when I last used the material
