LED Lights and Status Meaning

List of LEDs and their status on Freeplaytech CM3

Introduction

If the battery is connected and configured properly, DS2 (Blue) will turn on and show a blue light during the charing process. If charging the battery was successful DS2 will turn off and DS3 (Green) will be turned on.

Note
If you see both DS2 and DS3 illuminated at the same time this indicates an error with charging or the batteries. Please check out the Common Problems section.
Table 1. Front LEDs
Diode Label Color Description

DS1

POWER

Green

System Powering up/Running

DS4

LOW BAT

Red

Low battery

Error state:

  • DS1 + DS4 lit (Green AND Red LED in front) - System on, battery low, imminent shutdown

Table 2. Back LEDs
Diode Label Color Description

DS2

CHARGING

Blue

Connected battery is charging

DS3

CHARGED

Green

Connected battery is fully charged

Error state:

  • DS2 + DS3 lit (Blue AND Green) - Charge error, check battery, check JST connector wiring

As soon as a battery is physically connected, the board will detect it and illuminate DS2. It will also begin trying to charge the battery. If, for whatever reason, charging fails after a period of time (TBA) it will ALSO illuminate DS3.

Common Problems

  • Correct orientation of the JST connector wires (Ridge upwards, red on the left, black on the right)

  • Solder connections between battery and connectors

  • Solder connections between batteries if soldered in parallel

  • Sufficient power output of the used (Micro-)USB charger (TBA, what is the correct voltage/current)

Note
If you see both Blue AND Green lights on the back of your Freeplay CM3/Zero board this indicates a problem with the battery and you should go through the troubleshooting section of the build guide.
