  1. The data collected by volunteers should be transferred from the hand held devices to the servers over an SSL encrypted connection. Guidelines : https://www.nist.gov/news-events/news/2014/04/nist-revises-guide-use-transport-layer-security-tls-networks

  2. connectivity between web app / API and db should be encrypted or it should be inside a VLAN

  3. Make sure which all info / data can be collected as per all applicable laws.

  4. Phone numbers, email addresses etc should be available based on a strict ACL and MUST have an audit-trail ( https://wiki.ushahidi.com/display/WIKI/Data+Cleaning+Guidelines )
